Exercises Leading to Portraiture in Oil with Kevin Feary
Painting portraits can be demanding. We use the same practices in portraiture as we do in landscape, still life and the like. So why does it seem so much harder? Practice makes all the difference in the world. This weekly class will cover the basics of portraiture. In the first two classes we will do exercises that help us understand proportions, mix flesh tones and organize the basic structure of the head. In the second two classes we will practice what we learned from the prior two classes and paint portraits from photos I supply. Professional Oil colors supplied by the teacher. Remaining portrait materials list for student will be provided.

SATURDAY – 1 Day Workshop
Constructing A Winter Landscape in Oil with Kevin Feary
Painting a snow scene on location, in the elements is fun...for me anyway, and other hardy plein air painters. Painting a snow scene in the studio is just as fun...and warmer. This workshop will focus on capturing the subtleties of snow. We will design and paint a winter landscape from images and/or studies I supply. All aspects of painting will be covered to include: design, values, color mixing, paint application, etc.
Saturday, Feb. 15 | 10 am- 4 pm. | $100
Snow day Feb 22.
Color Mixing with Steve BonDurant
With warm primaries (cadmium yellow, cadmium red deep, and phthalo blue), their cool counterparts (cadmium lemon, rose madder genuine or alizarin crimson, and French ultramarine), plus a couple of convenience colors (yellow ochre, cadmium orange,) and titanium white, you can make any color you need to make a cohesive painting. The Gruppé palette is simple and limited, and is effective for many accomplished landscape painters. This mixing class will contribute to color sense and value range, making fabulous browns and greens from scratch, and confidence about taming chroma and seeking the look of an honest painting. Worksheets on card stock will be provided the day of the class, and a complete materials list follows.
Saturdays
3/8 and 3/15 | 1–4pm | 2 sessions $80
3/22 as a snow date.
$5 paid directly to the teacher for worksheets for the mixing class.
