Oil Painting Fundamentals and More!!
Daytime Classes

Learn fundamentals and advanced techniques of oil painting. Color mixing and composition are emphasized. Paint from your own photo or studio still life. Individual attention is given to each student to develop skill and artistic expression. Class ends with an interactive fun critique. Materials are not included.
All levels.

Painting in Oils - Monday Evenings
with Cheryl Leonard Van Denburg

Express yourself in oils - any level. Cheryl is offering an evening oil painting class designed for painters for all levels. Emphasis will be placed on interpreting ones reference to create a good composition. Color theory using transparent and opaque mediums will be taught. Explore the values of light and perspective. Painting demonstrations will take place.  Materials are not included.

Moving forward in Oil Painting
with Cindy Harris

March Afternoons! Spark your inner-artist with this class for both beginners and those re-awakening their oil painting passion. Learn the fundamentals of oil painting through Cindy’s method of painting impressionist landscapes and studio still life subjects in a relaxed class that covers basic techniques in a step-by-step, easy-to-learn method while allowing you to nurture your inner artist using a limited palette of colors. We will start with a value sketch, then using a limited palette explore value, light and shadow, color mixing, and other techniques that will help you create your own unique vision. Each session begins with a brief demonstration to get you started followed by one-on-one guidance from Cindy throughout the evening.  3 Sessions.

March Evenings, Plein Air Style with Steve BonDurant - cancelled

March Evenings—Three Wednesday evenings of oil painting in the studio! We’ll explore the fundamentals of creating convincing landscape paintings, with emphasis on composition, value structure, depth via color temperature and atmospheric perspective, and finesse for a finish. Individualized instruction of how to make the most of completing the effort from the evening, plus a review of the previous week’s effort. Participants will work from their own reference images. Work completed from the final class is encouraged to be sent via email for final input. Participants get mixing exercise worksheets to enhance color theory.  3 Sessions

Pastel Painting Landscape on Toned Paper with Pat Tribastone

Painting landscape scenes in pastel on toned paper is a great way to achieve drama and a sense of light and shadow.  This two-week class will give students a chance to try this technique and paint scenes with a striking sense of weather!  All materials provided.  2 Sessions.

Painting Birds in Oils with Pat Tribastone

The elusive bird will be the subject of this ‘try it’ class!  You will learn to identify the basic anatomy of the bird, and then paint both the vibrant and subtle colors of our fine feathered friends!  All materials provided; no solvents will be used in the class. 2 Sessions.

Beginning Watercolor with Nancy Lane

If you are fairly new to watercolor, this is the class for you! You will learn about the best materials and practices to get started painting in this exciting medium., such as setting up your palette, keeping track of your colors, and paper basics. You’ll learn a fun exercise to practice good brush strokes, color mixing, and the other essential skills. By watching a demonstration and then trying it yourself, we will paint this snowy scene together, using your new skills.
Materials are not included. We recommend you cross check your current supplies against the suggested supply list. 100% cotton rag paper is essential.
